my vegas review

I beat it in 1 day, but wasn't short. It took about 10 hours.

-I think it combined 1st person and 3rd person very well, and also
the sneaking action and intense action.

-Graphic is ok.

-It was difficult even on the normal setting.

-Control was tight.

-covering system felt even better than gears of war except it doesn't provide
the views as much as gears.

-the background is too repeatitive. it's just a building to another building.
They all look similar to each other. I expected some vegas aspect of the backgrounds
but none of the interior building design made me think so.
The only times I thought I am in vegas is when i am in the helicopter and fly.
So that was kinda disappointing.

-using thermal/night vision was annoying. None of these provided clear view to spot the enemies
and I could only see the enemies that are very close to me, meaning that if enemies are camping me,
I have no idea where the enemies are and it drives me nuts. Thermal view doesn't distinguish my teammates
from the enemies so i sometimes shoot at my teammates which kinda sux, too.
They didn't provide any fun feature in this game.

-Framerates are very smooth and impressive compared to demo. I never felt any of the frame issue throughout the game.

-there are about 10 different weapons in this game but they don't provide unique features so it makes me think that all the 10 weapons are pretty much the same.

-I don't think this game has any replay value on me because
I felt that the action and the background is too repeatitive even
when I am playing this for the first time. Some people say Gears of war
is just duck, shoot, duck, shoot but that's not true. Gears of war provided
weapons that works, feels different and variety of enemies so there could be many
combination to fight, but all the enemies in vegas are pretty much the same terrorist
and the strategy to kill them is duck and shoot only. Another reason is that unlike gears of war,
they focused on realism so if u get hit couple of times, u die.
That's why you HAVE to duck and shoot unlike gears of war.

entering the room after scanning and asking teammates to clear the room in different ways
were very innovating and fun at first but then it was keep repeating over and over
so i got bored of it soon enough.

I made it sound like it's a bad game but it's a good game actually.
I am very impressed with enemy A.I. as well.
physics in this game is awesome especially when I break the windows.
But this game is still no where close to Gears of war in my opinion and
doesn't have much replay value unless you like to play multiplayer.
beating it once was a good experience though, and it only took me 1~2days
to beat(around 11~12 hours) so i recommand rental.

My xbox360 blew up 6 times, I won't give it 7th chance. I will just wait for next xbox generation and use bakcward compatibility to play halo 3 and those xbox360 games. I guess I am just gonna buy ps3 or wii this time.

I can't disagree with much Joon said there but it still lasts longer than Gears IMO.

So in effect, Gears of War is actually still better then Rainbow 6 Vegas.....

I really enjoyed GOW, and thought it was a fantastic game. Ive only seen video clips and reviews of R6V and I was thinking of buying it, but Im still half and half. Not sure if it would really be my type of game.....

It'll be worth renting but like she said it's rock hard to play.

Something I found quite pleasing, in a weird way. I hate in games the way you get shot ten times by a shotgun, yet don't even bleed. Slightly exaggerated I know, but you get the drift. Though, it can do your head in when you're stuck at specific points and keep getting shot - especially by that bloody Spas.

They didn't provide any fun feature in this game.
This would be more realistic though as you couldnt tell your mates in real life as they all look the same.
In real life the enemies will hide from you!!! They aint gonnae jump out with a big sign shouting "shoot me, shoot me"

I have not completed the whole game yet as I am have too much fun online.
this is where this game really comes to life , (terrorist hunt with 3 mates is especially good)
And as for realism shoot the fishtank in the casino and watch the water run out the lovely holes it really is quite amusing

that's exactly what I said about physics and i said it's good already.

and we are talking about U.S. GOVERNMENT involved in this. Thermal sight should provide some way to distinguish enemies and teammates. This game came out in year 2006 and I believe U.S. army or police should have enough money to give them an advanced version of thermal sight. For example if your teammate has a heating device under their armor, then they should look different from other people(terrorist). The night vision and thermal vision they used in rainbow six vegas is what U.S. army used maybe in 70's or 80's but that's 30 ~40 years ago.

and what r u talking about? when did i ever say terrorist jump out with a big sign shouting shoot me shoot me?
But even if they are not hiding, you still can't see them with night/thermal vision if they are far away. That was my point.

Have you ever used thermal vision for real? I haven't, but I imagine the "far away" dudes you're seeing in reality aren't gonna show up as deep a red colour as someone 6 feet away from you is gonna show up. I imagine that the further away a person is, then the fader the red is going to get.

A person's body is going to show up as red. Likewise, a 'heating device' is also going to show up as red. Thus, how can you distinguish which person is wearing this device in comparison to someone who isn't?

It is? So, you are telling me you know the model of thermal/night version goggles that the United States Army used in 1974, compared to their 2007 counterparts, and thus their capabilities and whatnot? I'm no great expert when it comes to military spec equipment, but I imagine there's only so much you can do with what is essentially heat seeking equipment.

(BTW, I don't mean to come across as sarky or cheeky, if that's the impression I'm giving off...which I think might be the case. )

Again, U.S. is the strongest country and it's 2007 already.
Even U.S. college students should know how to make an advanced version of
thermal goggle than the one in this game with combination of using different frequency and wavelength, or something that disturbs the thermal goggle.
That way, they can look blue instead of red and so on.
Even if they don't know how to make one like that, They could still add more features next to the thermal goggle so if
u are looking at ur teammates, it shows some kind of sign like beeb sound or a signal on the goggle itself.
