RB6V2 reading RB6V1 data?

First time I ever tried the new RB6V2 game it put two welcome back messages on screen saying I had earned x amount of points.

This being the first time I had tried the game at all (I had played the original about a year ago) I am puzzled as to why it says welcome back as if I had been playing it.

Is it that it reads the old data from the original game or is it really just a tweaked version of the original using the same core data and therefore reading my old files as if they are current somehow?

I think if you have vegas 1 saved on your xbox you get a promotion when you start vegas 2.
