Okay...here's how I see it.
Unreal Tournament is a lot older than Halo. UT and Quake revolutionized the fps industry by basically saying fuck story, let's just shoot stuff. It innovated the online multiplayer aspect of the fps genre as whole. Halo's only significant contribution is bringing good controls to consoles.
And that's what UT excels at. Being a good solid shooter.
Halo's story stopped being decent after the first one imo. UT's story is there just to be there...it's not exactly the centerpiece. So sure, Halo's story is better than UT's story. I've already beat both....so that point is moot to most people. 99% of people I know don't play the campaign on repeat. They play multiplayer of some sort.
They both take skill. Anyone that says Halo doesn't need skill is wrong. Anyone that says UT doesn't need skill is wrong. With any decent shooter, the better you are the better you should do. Thus, "skill". Any shooter can be played professionally.
Talking about skill...not many can beat UT3's AI. I can just barely keep up with the AI on Godlike...it's really freaking good. Trumps any AI I've encountered, COD4, Halo3, GoW2...you name it. UT3's AI can actually beat most gamers. I've beat the three mentioned games on the hardest difficulties as well, so it's not like I don't have experience.
UT3 has better weapons imo. It doesn't have any of weapon carrying restrictions. It doesn't have any reloading. It doesn't have autoregen hp. It's a good old school pick up weapons and health packs fps.
Hell, while we're at it...if you really want to play an FPS get on a PC. FPS on console is crap...you can't aim anywhere as well as you can with a mouse. The only reason I play FPS on the 360 is because of splitscreen.
Given that UT3 is $20 new on 360, it's a steal. It's extremely fun. I play it more than Halo or GoW. UT3 is the fastest shooter I have ever played and it never puts me to sleep the way GoW or Halo can.
