WWE Legends of WrestleMania: The Million Dollar Visit + DEMO INFO

In my young mind, that Million Dollar moment pretty much solidified DiBiase as one of the most underhanded bad guys in the WWE.

Imagine what I felt like sitting next to him playing WWE Legends of WrestleMania this week.

Yes, THQ rolled into town this week to show off WWE Legends of WrestleMania and brought with it the one and only Million Dollar Man. DiBiase's still got the trademark laugh and swagger, but no IGN editors were suffocated with $100 bills. However, the WWE great did find time to sit down and relive his WrestleMania VI match with Jake "The Snake" Roberts. I put myself behind the controller, turned the camera on, and let Ted talk. The result is the video below, and it's pretty fricking nifty.

Of course, DiBiase wasn't the only noteworthy part of the THQ visit; the company did show its game. While I've already told you a lot about the controls and the ability to recreate WrestleMania moments, this demo focused a bit more on changing the outcome of previous 'Manias. As I'm sure you know, some of the game's core modes are "Relive, Rewrite, and Redefine." Here you're taking on classic WrestleMania matches and either trying to recreate the exact match, change the outcome, or take the match into a new direction via stipulations. When you pick a pre-made match in one of these modes, you'll get a slick video that contains some exclusive stuff recapping the feud and the WrestleMania match before being presented with a list of objectives. Each of these bullet points has a value assigned to it and you need to pull off a certain number of them to bank the points and work toward a gold medal in the match.

Taking the "Rewrite" road, the first match pitted the Junkyard Dog against Greg "The Hammer" Valentine for the Intercontinental Title. Now, this match from the first WrestleMania originally ended with Valentine getting counted out and JYD thus getting the win but no championship. In the game, you get to change all of that. With Jimmy Hart in Valentine's corner, there are points assigned for executing a strong grapple and hitting your finisher, but the main goal is to get that strap around the challenger's waist. Using the simplified control scheme -- face buttons are all you need to attack, defend, interact, and so on -- JYD was easily able to wail on the Hammer and put him away for the win.

History was vindicated, but the Million Dollar Man saw otherwise.

"I never saw Dog do that," DiBiase said after watching JYD flip Valentine with a headlock takedown.

THQ also talked a bit about Legend Killer. Now, wrestling games are all about creating your own Superstar and WWE Legends of WrestleMania has already showed off its Create A Legend feature (including more than 100 new '80s/'90s-inspired parts and all of the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw goodies) right here on IGN, but it's never really been detailed how that player is going to progress. Turns out, that is the whole point of Legend Killer. When you enter this mode, you're presented with seven statues. Your first time in, you'll select one of these monuments and get a list with ten hidden names. If you choose to start, the first name will be revealed and you'll face off against him in the ring. Beat him, and the next name on the list will come to the ring. Beat him, and the next will come. Get the picture? Your created hero is basically in a giant gauntlet match (you get some health back in between bouts) to prove himself in the WWE. If you beat everyone, you'll get some experience points that you can take to the center statue and use to modify your personal legend.

Now, not all of these statuesque bouts are going to be out of your control. One of these marathon runs will pit you against the brawlers you've used the most in the game, and another will have you square off -- if you've imported your save -- against folks from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. Yup, if you have a SVR 09 save on your system, you can bring the entire roster into WWE Legends of WrestleMania for a little crossover ass kicking. The modern heroes won't get remodeled to fit the action figure-like proportions of the Legends cast, but it's still going to give you a booster shot of content to aid your historical exploits. You can, however, import your created characters from SVR, and they'll retain all of their stats.

Beyond the Million Dollar visit, it was good to see a bit more of WWE Legends of WrestleMania. There's a new a tag mechanic known as the "Vengeance System" that builds momentum for one team if the opponents are doing something evil, and like I said in my last preview, the controls have been smoothed out and the videos look more interesting than ever. Still, there are still some interesting quirks here and there -- If we're recreating WrestleMania memories, why is JYD in red tights instead of white ones he wore at the show? Why's the Hammer's IC Belt white instead of green? -- but the game definitely captures the nostalgia people have for the original Undertaker entrance music and flare of Koko B. Ware. Look for our full review next month, and be sure to check out the demo on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live next week.
WOW, can't wait for thursday to get this demo

Thats wikkid. This game looks great, but theres a part of me that knows i'll get bored of it pretty easily. Onced ive gorilla press slammed a few people, given the big boot and Leg drop, it will seem kinda the same. Be a good party game though.

After re-reading that... its says you can import the '09 roster with just a game save. Can you swap game saves on the PS3? So Hoops you could send me the game save via email, an I just import them. I really dont care that much, want the legends more then anything.

its a shame you cant import the dlc (whenever it finally arrives) but either way it should be fun all around for sure.

yeah you can trade game saves easily. just grab it off the ps3 via a usb stick and email it or whatevr to the person who wants it.

i'll email it out to anyone who needs it when the game comes out.

i'm curious how it'll work tho because the wrestlers in the legends game look a very cartoony compared to the wrestlers in svr09...
