If it was free, it would turn out like ps3 online, it SUCKS big time, by paying, they have a reason to maintain and improve it. There pay cheque =D

I have no problem with XBL costing money but I think they should significantly reduce the prices. I mean, even with at least a million users, they get $50,000,000 which is quite a high price to pay for people to be upgrading the little sliding menus every so often.

I think Xbox Live is worth it for the price you pay.. It helps extend the life of your games. I wish it was free though but $40 a year(you can get deals online) and it saves you from buying 2-3 games a year then its definitely worth it..

Ummm PS3 online is actually better. The PS3 has dedicated servers. You know what that means right?

I would think it's because Microsoft loves to make money. And people are willing to pay for it.

Exactly. Microsoft know that people will pay to play.
I don't have live, and I'm not going to get it. With the amount you pay for PAL games, you should be able to play online with out extra cost.
