New Headset is it working?

Hey just bought a new headset cuz i broke the one i had that came with the 360.

When I turned on my xbox there was another live update and now when i record something it wont play back, so i went on halo 2 live and I couldnt hear anyone talking and they couldnt hear me.

Is my new headset broke?

Is there something wrong with the xbox servers?

This happens to me once in a while, I usually just turn off the 360 and controler, then turn it back on. Go to the 360 dash, and make a new message. Record voice, and it should work.
