Please help a total noob !!! Sorry !

Hello everyone,

My nephew just got a new mobile phone contract, and the deal meant that he also got a free Xbox 360 with it. However is is only the basic unit with very few accessories. He now wants a hard drive for it. Could someone please tell me if I can fit ANY hard drive to it? Or do I need to buy a certain type of hard drive or something? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You need the official Xbox 360 HDD. It stores 20gb.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I come from Cornwall so it was a nice surprise when a fellow Celt replied to my message. I have another little question for you, if you don't mind. My nephew says that his friend has 200GB of hard drive storage and not 20GB. Can you get xbox360 hard drives larger than 20GB, or do you have to use multiples of smaller ones. I realise that my nephew should be ably to find this out from his friend, but apparently it is a 'big deal' to phone him up and ask him. Kids eh, who'd have em! lol.

P.S. I apologise for my extreme noobiness.

no, microsoft does not seel larger than 20 gb, yet atleast. He may have hooked up an aftermarket harddrive, not manufactured by Microsoft. Likely, that he just added an extra 0 to the number

The only option at the moment is a 20gb HDD (although rumours are flying around that in the future you will be able to buy bigger ones). He may have done some modding that I'm not aware of, but I'd think he's probably just got confused and added an extra 0 on the end.

Edit: Ah, too slow. Haha.

OK, excellent. Thanks for the replies everyone. I will buy him a 20GB hard drive from Amazon for £64.99. And if he doesn't like it, then tough luck on him. If he wants to go 'modding' or whatever, he can sort it out himself.

i wouldnt let him mod it himself if i were you he mught screw the warranty and the xbox

as long as he waits three months because then theres no warranty to lose but im guessing your Saramacs son is young.

There's still no mods that work for the HDD. I've been keeping an eye on it. People have installed larger HDDs and they've worked, but still only show as 20gig, making all the extra space wasted.

So nobody has a hard drive in the 360 over 20 gig yet.
