Wireless Steering Wheel problem!

Can anybody give me some advise about how to reduce or eliminate the rediculous amount of 'deadband' on my newly purchased Microsoft Wireless Wheel. The sensitivity is adjustable within the game (test drive unlimited) but I cannot see any provision to regulate the deadband which is about 15° either side of center and makes steering a sensible course extremely tricky!
I cannot believe that a wheel that is supposedly designed specifically for the XBOX 360 can have such poor characteristics! It is actually easier to steer with the standard hand-held wireless controller!

Any feedback from anyone who has this wheel would be greatly appreciated.
