I need help withUniversal Remote - T.V. setup

I need to know the steps to automatically find the T.V. code for the universal remote. I know to hold down OK and TV buttons until only the digits are illuminated. Then I press the down channel and up channel until the TV turns off, but I can't remember how to program it with that number. Someone please post that last step. I lost the setup guide.
