The linksys router is far the worst I have used. It disconnects sometimes, bandwith throttle is reduced by 50% randonly for somereason. It doesnt allow you to update the firmware...you pay for what you get parks...its goes for anything!

I've had 2 linksys routers at home (BEFSX41 and WRT54G) for personal use and a handful of them at work (BEFSR41 and WRT54GL) for road shows and such. I've had no problems with any of them. For our business needs, we use Cisco 7600 series modular routers...so I am very familiar with high-end products.
As far as Linksys goes, I update the firmware on them quite frequently....not sure what problem you have been having. I've even hacked them and put on 3rd party firmwares....OpenWRT to name one particular firmware.
You do get what you pay for, but I think that the Linksys routers are just as good as the Dlink's, Netgear's, etc of the home soho networking world.
