^^ Whats wrong with the reviews? about 70% of the people that purchased them gave it 4 eggs or more (lol) the only repeat I can see is the lack of real ground pounding bass? but in a headphone??? who cares? And reviews are always gonna be iffy. You dont know if those idiots even have them hooked up right? I'll give my thoughts after using them tonight.

*EDIT* I'm not to worried about it anyways I will just return them to frys if I have a problem. One thing that concerns me is people complaining about the mic messing up and being cheapy. I also noticed most of the bad reviews were posted last year so there could possibly some updates that have been made since these were first made? Again I will try them out for a few days and pass my judgment them. i have 30 days to return them to frys for a full refund!

Blazed - 'on paper' those look like a good option for those who would prefer true 5.1 surround - I'll be curious to hear what you think.

What do you think about them so far? I been thinking of getting something similar since i have to mute my mic since the ambient sound plus the sorround sound goes through the mic and then people complain as i would myself.

Is there any advantage to using these over regular headphones?

I game with 5.1 surround, and am a complete audiophile. When using headphones I use my Grado SR80 open-air cans. I have to pipe the voice through the headset and headphones sometimes to hear, but the open-air design of the Grados allows sound from the MS headset to reach my ears just fine if I sit the headset on the outside of the headphone's speakers.

These headsets seem very nice, but I don't know if I want to invest in one because
a) it sounds a bit overly complicated. Why are IR and batteries even involved if it's wired to anything?
b) I dont want to lose sound fidelity by downgrading cans. With my Grados I can hear anything and everything. I really don't miss a single sound. I'm thinking that wearing the cans with the MS headset on the outside may be a worthwhile trade for good audio.

Anyone with experience with good, I mean really good headphones able to attest to the audio quality on these?

On another note, Viper I feel your pain. My friend got a newer wired MS headset with the control fob in-line and it drives me nuts. I have to switch my mic on and off whenever I want to talk to keep ambient sound from bleeding through, and with the controls no longer actually on the controller it's a real PITA. Glad my old school headset still works.

If you're referring to the Turtle Beach ones:
The X2 and X3 use wireless sound transmission for the game sound part - no wire connected from your sound output on the TV to the headset. You do still have a wire from the headset to the Xbox controller for the chat part.

On the X1 there is an extra wire from the headset to the TV for game sounds, so no IR or batteries. I find that the outbound transmission quality for your own voice is better with the X1 than the X3 (that is based on my owning an X1 and a friend I play with several times per week owning an X3).

OK! Here are my thoughts on the Tritton AX 360's! So far I absolutely love them!!! The dsound is great, especially being digital 5.1 I can hear anything and everything that is going on in the game and it sounds great! you can adjust the volume for the front rear and center speakers in the headphone seperately which is good becuase in order to hear your team mates well i noticed you have to turn the center up to like 7 or 8 and it seem that the center speaker is used more for your friends voices than the game sounds. And so far everyone has been able to hear me crystal clear with the mic no problems at all! I have put about 6 hours total in with them so far and I dont really have any complaints! They are super easy to set up and if you dont mind a few wires (not wireless). The cord it comes with for the digital audio is a little cheap looking but it works great! I tried to use a better optical cable I had laying around only to find out my cable was faulty! So good thing they came with one! As for comparsions to the turtle beach I couldnt tell ya as i have not experienced them yet. But as far as the Tritton goes I would def. recommend them if you are looking some 5.1 headphones! They also connect to virtually everything. PC, home theater, 360, etc. I also think you can find them online for around 100 bucks. If yall wanna know anything else I might have left out just holler at me! I give them 4.5 out of 5! (my only complaint so far is that they start getting uncomfortable on my head after awhile) BUT I have a big head! for real I have to wear the XL fitted caps and sometimes they are to small! lol

Wow, this thread took off! And it feels like I'm the only one who ever purchased the X3! It sounds like everyone is pretty much going for the wired X1 and I don't blame them based on Javelin's feedback of problems he's had hearing me through the X3. I have to admit that's frustrating for both of us.

"Look out for that guy to your left!"
"Oh, man! I just got blind-sided! What did you say?"

I don't really understand why the X3 has problems with chat clarity. It connects to the XBox controller using a wire just like any other headset would. Only the game sounds use the I/R transmitter. I went for wireless because I have WAY too many wires going in and out of the big hutch desk where my TV is located and you have to be a contortionist to route and unroute wires when changing out equipment. For that reason, I still like the X3 despite the chat problems.

I'd say its about 6 feet long maybe a bit shorter. However it really isnt that long but it really doesnt have to be since the cable on the headphones is super long.
