Headset Static
When I use my headset with my wired Gamestop controller, guys on CoD4 tell me that they hear static, but when I use my wired 360 controller, I have no problems. Anyone have an idea on something that may be happening and if I can fix it? Thanks in advance.

The cheaper GameStop/MadCatz controllers have lower quality audio processors than the official Microsoft Xbox 360 controllers. That's one way that GameStop/MadCatz is able to lower the price on these 3rd party controllers, by using cheaper, lower quality components. The 360 controller has an audio chip in it that records from the microphone and turns it into a digital stream on the controller's USB cord. It also takes a digital audio stream out of the USB signal and turns it into the analog output that you hear through the headphones. Microsoft uses higher quality chips in their (more expensive) controllers.
I too have a GameStop branded MadCatz wired controller, and when leaving myself voice messages to test the microphone, it doesn't sound that good and loud noises sound distorted.

Yeah, my RB button isn't clicky anymore and I've only had the controller for like 2 weeks, but I got it used without a warranty from GameStop for $20 so big deal, I bought it because I am not sure if my 360 is even going to last with the RROD fix I did.

I did the X clamp replacement, replace the X clamps with tight screws and then overheat the GPU to reflow the solder. It's been working for like 2 weeks.

I can live with more noise if I have to, I cut the positive wires to the fans and soldered them to a known 12v source on the board. Now the fans run a lot faster (and tons louder) but move considerably more air, and the output isn't burning hot like on non-modded 360's. I think it'll work, it crashed last Thursday but that's because I didn't do the GPU overheat/reflow...I did that Saturday morning and it's been running great ever since (and I play it probably 4 hours or more a day, trying to get the most out of my Xbox Live 1 month trial).
