Plug and Play Problems......

For whatever reason my battery will not charge when it is plugged in. I am using the microsoft plug and play kit. This started last week for some unknown reason. The battery and cable are only 4 months old and worked properly until last week. When i plug my joystick in the light stays red on the cable for about 10 seconds then changes to green at wich point the battery does not charge. The joystick recieves power when the cable is plugged in as i can use the joystick just fine. However the battery will not charge. The contacts are clean and at this point i am cluesless as what to do.

To me that sounds like it is working fine, as pointed out above by Moses.

Does the controller charge down quickly when the cable is not plugged in?
If so, could this be due to leaving the cable plugged in for too long at times?
