u get better response time out of hdmi over component and its a proven fact. hdmi is a digital out and component is analog that is converted to analog through the tv. u save close to 20ms that adds up.

oh and heres a great surround sound Pioneer 600W 5.1 Surround Sound System For XBOX 360 - HTS-GS1 - Wal-Mart

Well, I've never heard anybody professing a speed increase of HDMI over component cables.

The industry wants people to use HDMI because they have more copy protection mechanisms.

The only real advantage of HDMI is the ability to upconvert and the fact that it covers both sound and video on 1 cable.

And some TV's do not accept a 1080p signal through Component, so you have to use HDMI on those sets to get full HD 1080p.

True...however since I dont' believe the human eye is capable of seeing a difference at that resolution...the point is moot. The source material matters, but a 1080p source playing on a properly calibrated set at 720p and 1080p looks the same.

I have to disagree on that. I had a 720p set and recently upgraded to a 1080p set and can easily tell a difference between the two.

thats what I am saying, assuming its a 1080p source ofcourse. I mean you have to sit pretty close to see a difference but the closer u sit, the greater the difference.

and I know pparks know his shit, but last time I checked a higher resolution = more pixels which = a sharper picture. So the closer u get to the screen and the more you stretch the screen out the higher resolution you will want.

Actually depending on the size of your TV you will want to sit further away the bigger set you have, not closer.

While I don't want to disagree with you...typically when this happens 1 of 2 things happened
-#1). The original 720 display was improperly calibrated
-#2). The source material to test was different (DVD on 720 versus a blu-ray or other 1080p material on 1080p display).

Please visit this stickied thread for more information on what I am talking about.
1080p vs 720p Shootout - They look the same! - Xbox 360 Forum

In a nutshell, if you are using 2 devices, properly calibrated using the exact same source material (let's say a 1080p bluray movie), then even on 100" screens, it's hard/impossible for the human eye to differentiate any difference between the display at 720 lines and the other display at 1080 lines.

Sure, if you sit right on top of the display, you will notice some difference. But at a reasonable distance for the size of the display...your eyes cannot comprehend that difference. The thing is that some of the details are lost at a certain distance...but if you sit too close the display is grainy and pixellated.

And while that is true...if the human eye is incapable of seeing that difference...what is the point??? Sure the manufacturers want you to buy their new displays...but the question is are you simply putting more money into their pockets and blindly believing your picture looks that much better???

And seriously, as an avid AV guy (as well as Deathwish), clearly we understand the simple equation (higher resolution = more pixels which = a sharper picture.). It's not just a matter of us not applying common sense..but rather doing lots of testing, reading and understanding what all this stuff means and seeing through the marketing hype. Marketing hype is all that it is, terms like "True HD" or "Full HD". They are playing on emotions and making people wish they could experience the "full effect". It's sad the sheer # of people who fall for it.

Overall, I'm not saying that 1080p is bad. But if you eliminated a 720p display simply on the basis of lower resolution...you did yourself a disservice. I'd gladly take a 720P Pioneer or Panasonic Plasma over just about any 1080P LCD.

agree with that 100% and I feel no need for 1080p either, and you are right that you have to sit extremely close. But I actually thought you meant there was no difference at all, when in fact there is.

But back on topic, go with a better 720p for a lower cost as apposed to a 1080p tv.
