connection not working (troubleshoot)

I have a connection that disconnects me from xbox live after around twenty minutes. The cable runs into my d-link router 2.4 ghz (wet). I tryed using a wireless conection as well. It keep doing the same thing. Also I tryed reseting my router as well. I really don't know what to do? Maybe I need a new router?
