Wireless network adapter problem!

Hi, I just bought a wireless network adapter so that i wouldn't need to move the xbox to the same room as the modem!
I plugged it in and a red light came on the wireless adapter.
When i checked the live, there was no net, so I looked through the networks settings, because i know I have to put in a password on our wireless network!
But on edit settings in network setting, there is only possible to change the ip settings and the dns settings...
The wireless mode is there, but when i press on it, I only get a bip.
Anyone that knowes what to do? Does windows connect now, have anything to do with the problem? I appriciate every answer=)!

I'm having exactly the same problem.
I am guessing it is supposed to have a green light and not a red one. The area where you can edit your wireless settings is grey and just makes a beeping sound when I try to enter it as well

I had this exact same problem - bought my shiny new Elite with a wireless adaptor on Wednesday, only to find that when I connected the adaptor the wireless settings were greyed out.

I called the support line, and the chap said that there is a known "bad batch" of the wireless adaptors out there at the moment, and that I should take it back and exchange it - which I did, and the new one works a treat. So my advice is to exchange your wireless adaptor, and if that one doesn't work keep exchanging them until you get one that does!

That will help quite a few people and I'm getting one soon instead of using wired, so that will be useful to know.

A different issue

I'm thinking of buying an adapter as well, but before I do, I wanted to know if the following is possible.

I read the Linksys manual online, and it says that you must plug one end of an ethernet cable to a pc (not a surprise). My question is this - can the pc be connected to the home network wirelessly, or must this pc have a wired connection to a modem? I'd hate to blow $50 on something that I can't use.

IMO I think it needs to be wired directly . But I am sure there might be a way to connect the PC to your home network wirelessly . Just depends on if would be cheaper than $50.00 .
