hdmi cable or original cable
I recently lent my 360 to my dad who has a HD tv, so when he hooked the console up to the tv he switched the cable that comes with it to HD, he manages to get a piture playing it through HD, but no sound?
He had a play around with the cables but couldnt get any sound, even with changing the settings around in the dashboard too!!
So has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to get a HDMI cable to get sound out of it on his TV.
My tv in my front room is 32 inch but is not digital, so i dont have the problem, however I do have a 19inch HD LCD tv in the bedroom, and after seeing the picture quality on my dads tv I thought I might just hook it up to this, would I be better off getting a hdmi cable or can I use the cable that comes with it?
Also one more question do i need to buy the microsoft one which I have seen for £35, or will a normall ndmi cable do???

Did you plug in the red/white cables in aswell?
HDMI cables are lot more easier to use and you dont need an expensive one to get the most out of it unlike scart leads etc.
Get a cheap one from argos for under a tenner.

Well with out you telling us how he did it its kind of hard to tell you whats wrong. Go with HDMI anyway, better picture, better sound, one cable.

Yea I know, sorry!!
Just asked him and he had the 3 plugs and the red and white plugs in the tv with no sound, so he removed the red and white and still no sound.
Maybe he would need to change the settings on the tv???
He changed the settings on the dashboard with no success.
Might just go and buy a HDMI cable, saw them in argos for a tenner (cheers meatball) so might get that for next time he borrows it, plus ill need it for when I get a big HDTV anyway

You shouldnt need to change any settings for sounds on the TV or the 360. For picture yes, maybe...But not sound. I can guarantee he didnt plug the cables in the correct sockets.
Like its been said if you go with the HDMI cable its alot easier & you dont need to set anything up. & the picture quality is better on HDMI than component. Not by loads but a little. And far better than the standard RGB thats for sure.
