Wireless Network Adaptors

Hi,

I am about to go out and buy a Xbox 360 but really need a wirless adaptor to pick up the internet. Are the MS ones really worth the money and how good are they?

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Cheers.

I'm sure many people will chime in, they are not worth what M$ charges and there are other options out there.

For ease of setup it took me less than 10 min to configure and get on Live assuming your router is xbox live compatible. IMO its the easiest route but they overcharge for what you get, as always.

I already have Live, and just moved back home from school. There isn't an ethernet outlet close to my console, so I'm also trying to comparison shop for an adapter. The only options online I've seen are Microsoft's and one from Pelican. I don't know much about the reliability of Pelican products; their adapters seem to be going for $50, compared to Microsoft's which are $100. Are these the only two options or are there better ones?

I've posted this a couple of times now, perhaps we could have this added to the sticky

Want viable, cheaper alternative to MS Wireless Adapter

Another alternative instead of the MS Wireless Network adapter?

Lightbulb Great Alternative to wireless!!

I bought the M$ wireless adapter and had to take it back as it was faulty and the next i got was faulty as well i even took them to my local games shop and they tested them so i saked the wireless off and found these, (sorry cant put link up) Homeplug Twin Pack 85Mb Ethernet Adapter (amazon)

You plug one into the mains socket next to your router and plug it into your router then plug the other adapter into any mains wall socket in your house wherever your xbox is and plug your xbox into it and its an EXCELLENT connection, better than wireless.
Just dont plug them into mains extension cables and you will get the same connection as straight into your router.
Hope this helps..
Dan.

daniel556, can I ask, how big is your house? Does the connection have to travel far for your use?

Reason I ask is I recommended a homeplug to a friend as it would be perfect for him but he lives in a VERY big house with the 2 rooms needing the connection at either end! I wanted to know how much of a difference it made :-)
Might just get him to buy one and take it back if it's not good :P

If you have a Gamestop or a store like them (they buy and sell new and used games , consoles , etc...)
I would try and get a used one . They even warranty used items they sell . I have bought used games , wired guitar and the M$ network adapter from them and have had no problems with used items .

I bought mine used from an electronics store, I paid 45$,....I did have to take the 1st one back cause it didn't work but they swapped it out and I haven't had any problems since with online gaming and streaming movies/music wireless.
I love it.

Helluva bump lol. There have been some good deals in the UK recently for the official one (if you like the ease of it all) Gears 2 and the Adapter for £65. Not bad really, especially if you wanted the game anyway. Expired deal now though.
