ok pparks,

let's talk about routers. the gaming routers out there are saying this and that. but does it still boil down to the ISP connection with me and the LIVE server? I've emptied full clips at guys and died from single gunshots. Just trying to squeeze out any performance I can from my connection. it's been about 2 years already with my router and i want to upgrade already.

peace

Rick

hate to break it to ya, but if they killed you in one shot then your connection just so happened to spike as you were shooting and stabilized just as the person shot you.

in other words, its your imagination

i was pretty sure that the CAT 5/5e was the only cable you can use for it as the CAT 6 has a different amount of strands in the sheath.

The liklihood of you getting a noticeable performance increase from upgrading your router is pretty darn small. Unless of course, you have a malfunctioning router. Keep in mind that you play with people from all over the world. The packets have to leave, go to a centralized server (who knows where) and the same goes for the people you are playing with. The speed of the packets going those hundreds and thousands of miles will be the issue...and not the stuff in your home and right next to your computer.

That's incorrect. This type of network cable is UTP (unshielded twisted pair) and there are 4 pairs of copper wires (thus 8 wires total). Cat 5/5e/6 all have the same number of wires in the cable.

The only thing which is "future proof" is DEATH. Did I mention, I absolutely hate the use of the term "future proof".
