e68 but sometimes works with still no data tho

My bro was playing COD: WaW and some dude sent him an invite to a game so he joined then it said "could not join game" or somethine along those lines (i wasnt there) then he said he turned off the console and tried to turn it on later and it wouldnt work it kept giving him some error code (e68) or it wouldnt have any profiles or save data. I have tried all kinds of "fixes" such as
unpluging av cable
switching to hdtv then back
lovingly tapping the hdd on something hard
beating the crap out of the hdd
and it still does the same thing. i took it apart but couldnt find a screw driver small enough to get the screws out of the actual hardrive (i got the torx out tho) i know my way around hardware fairly well so if there is some way to repair this my self i would greatly appreciate it.

p.s. i have the gamerpic for beating mass effect on insanity and i really dont want to have to beat the games 3 times in a row againplus i dont want to have to buy a new hdd.

allow me to clarify just so ppl fully understand this apparently unique problem.
It doesnt allways give me an e68. sometimes it takes a good while to leave the first screen with xbox 360 symbol and then finally does but has no profiles or any saved data whatsoever, as though there isnt a hardrive in it. I dont understand this. Also i still have the "new" dashboard but idk if that is stored on hdd or if it is stored on some internal memory

I bought my xbox around 3 and a half years ago however it finally bit the dust several months ago and i sent it to xbox to be repaired (aka replaced). Every now and then for a looooong time i would get e68 but it was very very rare. i didnt know what it was until now tho or i would have backed everything up

well i fixed it with a little electronic owning skills. i attached a piece of alluminum foil to the 2 pins on the right (shorting them) on the set of 4 pins that is unused on the hardrive. Thats seems to have fixed the problem. apparently im not the only one that knows this tho. there is a vid of someone doing this on youtube. however i assure you it works. atleast for me it did. it may not fix all problems like if the motor dies in the hardrive its dead and theres not alot you can do but for whatever was wrong with mine it worked. e68= aluminum foil the 2 pins together

I have had e68 errors on and off for 2 years and it finally got to the point of not starting at all with the Hard Drive installed. I called Xbox support and they refuse to fix the problem under warranty even though its an obvious fault of the system and something thats blasted all over the internet. I have used my 360 very little compared to most, and I shouldn't be having these issues. They are crazy if they think I am going to pay $150 for a new hard drive when I paid $399 for the system. Silly that they would jeopardize a Microsoft Live account and future game purchases just because they refuse to repair a hard drive under warranty. With the reduced price of the PS3, I can put that $150 towards a great game system and blu-ray player all in one. I really enjoyed my 360, but I refuse to pay for a Hard Drive I feel died prematurely.
