i dont think slight movement has an effect. i have bumped mine and it tilted quite a bit and the game remained in tact. there is a link for a video somewhere in this forum which shows a guy changing it from verticle to horizontal and back again. and then it churns the disc like butter. not advised...unless it is on pdz, gun or any sports game...

yeah i wouldn't move my 360 at all unless the power cords where unplugged, i don't want to damage anything it's to beautiful of a system to do that to it.

well my console was only slightly off centre as it was sitting half on a power cable and i moved it to being on centre when it was on and there wasnt any problems. it really is only if it is moved drastically.
having seen what a disc looks like after being scratched through this method, i wouldnt say it was the laser but the fact that the disc is moving around when it is spinning around.

yeah this is true, if it were the laser i don't think the system would be able to read the discs anymore

yeah and why would the laser do that? it is not as if it is a dr evil laser which burns the hell out of things is it? if you look carefully where the disc sits in the 360's tray, it is slightly higher where the perimeter of the disc would sit. my theory is that it is this bit that scratches the disc...

yeah, most likely thats it, because thats the only thing that really close enough to the disc to do anything when it is moved or banged in such cases

anyway. i had better start my cull of clutter in my room. i promised the other guys who have super clean setups that i can challenge their rooms cleanliness. apparently a clutter-free room can mean a happier life?

what do you mean? i though that subs were non-directional. i also heard that some subs need to be kept from other electronics because of the huge magnets they have. but i think that is BS....
|
I know this response is late but i'm saying it anyway...
i was taught or read somewhere that you get the best "quality" sound from surround sound by directing the subwoofer away from your viewing position. surround sound, as a matter of fact, is supposed to be a thing of beauty, not blowing out speakers and pissing off the people next door.

yeah that is right. although sometimes films have bits which are louder than other bits; the start of sequence of 'the shield', for example, is so much louder than the other stuff that i have to fast forward it when i am watching it at night. the phantom of the opera also has bits like that - so beware! why does the sub give better sound when it is directed away?
