Nooob Needs Ur Advice!

Hi fellow gamers, I need your advice on spending $1000.00.

Yes, I have exactly $1000.00 to spend on a new Xbox 360 system and I want to make the right decision, therefore I come to you here at the 360 forums.

ABOUT ME:

I'm 33, my wife is 32 and she's due to have our child in 4 months! She likes games that don't require a lot of "buttons to use". She loves the driving games and slower sports games. I like everything, especially shooter games. I currently play PC games and am ranked in the top 200 in the world in Battlefield 2. With that ranking I should know what to buy, but hey, I'm married, work, have a child on the way and play games during free time.

I saved up enough dough to buy a console my wife and I could enjoy and I think the 360 is right for our 51" HDTV to enjoy.

So please answer this my fellow gamer friends.

What are the "must have" games that I will play forever and ever?

What racer game is the best?

I want 2 controllers with a Hard DRive setup.

Where do I buy for the most bang for my buck?

Thanks ahead of time.

Good day,

Mark

Can't help you with price from where I am, but I'm having a heap of fun with Test Drive Unlimited. If you get Xbox Live Gold then you can play online. Heaps of people are on at any time, and you can either just cruise around the island of O'ahu or take people on in races.
Project Gotham racing is ok, but it gets old pretty quick (for me, anyway).
Burnout Revenge is good for some arcade fun and multiplayer.
Forza is coming out pretty soon, looks pretty good.

I find most of the games that have the best replay value are the Live Arcade titles. Worth a few bucks each, they can be quite addictive.

Oh well, hope these tips get you off to a good start. Your thread will be flooded with replies before too long.

BTW: What's your name in Battlefield 2? I play it a bit on PC as well.

Thank you Jimmy. I was torn between Unlimited and Gotham reviews..I think I'll get Unlimited for my 1st package buy. I'm hoping to find a driver/shooter/racer package deal on Ebast@rds but nothing so far. Maybe somebody here will know of a place where I can spend my cash without paying tax, minimal shipping with 3 games/2 controllers and a hard drive.

My BF2 name is "US^Shadow". My ranking is in Helicopter pilot. I play the Dragon map a lot.

thanks again,

Mark

Welcome to the forums gonzo. If your into RPG's there's oblivion which is very long and gives you your money's worth. If you haven't played call of duty it's an amazing game, part 3 comes out this christmas I think.

There's also dead rising which is a lot like Dawn of the Dead in the mall, and Saint's Row that is a lot like GTA.

When you buy your 360 I would suggest a store warranty or purchasing one through Microsoft, some systems have had problems and i've had to return 2 of them. Hope this helped you out a bit

It sounds like your wife might like Table Tennis it's actually a lot of fun playing against other people.

I checked out your stats in BF2, you've clocked up a lot of hours! You have some impressive stats. I'll have to reinstall the game and get back into it, I think!
Although I'm not sure where you got the "top 200 in the world" from. Currently you're ranked 17,827. That's a decent drop.
(Stats from http://bf2s.com/player/45997695/rankings/ ).

Mine's Jimmy Bish. It's been a while since I played so my stats aren't in the database. They will be shortly since I searched for my name on that site. I'm nowhere near you, though!

Anywayz, I agree with Sweetooth about Table Tennis. I have a few mates that come around to drink and play quite often and table tennis comes out nearly every time for a little while. It's pretty good fun.

Hello Gonzo and welcome to the forums. If you are looking for a long lasting game get Oblivion ive played it about 6 times through (and i might play it though again) In my opinion Project Gotham Racing 3 (PGR3) is the best online racing game for two reasons 1:It kicks ass in almost evryway a racing sim should 2:The downloadable content will keep the game fresh for ages
When you get live add me and well have some games

Thanks for the replies.

Jimmy, my ranking is 276 as a Helicopter Pilot. Look under vehicles>Helicopter.
http://bf2tracker.com/bf2_userrankin...7695&bfmodid=0

So PGR3 is better than Test Drive Unlimited.

Where do you guys recommend buying one? Off Ebay without a warranty or major electronics store that offers warranty? Is there a package deal that I can get somewhere?

THanks again,
Mark

Don't ever buy a 360 without warranty, it's like russian roulette with 4 bullets in the six shooter. My (and probably everyone's) advise is to get the 2 years warranty. Game-wise you should get table tenis and PGR3. (pgr has split-screen right?) You probably won't get a package that has 2 controllers, but you can buy a separate one any time and when you're buying controllers, go for wireless + play and charge kit + battery pack. 25 hours per charge and you can charge while playing. That's all a 15 year old can advise you

my favorite game yet for the 360 is hitman blood money. for the money, it is the biggest bang. i have played through oblivion (takes a lot of time), saints row, ghost recon, and pgr3. their all fun. oblivion just takes too much time especially for a non-rpg player.
