No problems with mine - got last Saturday - the longest I have played is about 8 hours without shutting the system down. Again, no issues - love this machine - I have not hooked my IPOD up to it yet - the last thing to test.

Thumbs down no

Extended use should not be a problem unless the units cooling is defective.

The console will reach near maximum temperature in under 1/2 hour. After that the temperature shouldn't fluctuate all that much.

The only way overheating would become an issue is if the cooling system isn't doing its job. Then the system will be running at over-spec temps... eventually causing failures. This would mean though, that after 1/2 an hour damage would be incurred.

I expect as yields improve, the quality of the chips will also improve, and there will be far less problems like this. They will be able to run at lower voltages, and run cooler overall. Poorly manufactured chips can give out far more heat dissipation than anticipated.

From what I understand, a lot of the crashing was due to the overheating of the power brick and not the console. Once there is an unstable source of power, the machine will act strangely.

People also have to learn not to put their stuff in enclosed areas.
