If Sony drop gaming, who's gonna take over? If there's no competition, how do console improve?
The PS3 failing is the worst thing that can possibly happen to gaming. Because then Microsoft has nobody to try and beat. Then we'll be stuck with the 360 for 15 years.
I don't know about you, but I want the console makers to keep making good consoles every 5 years or so.

I know we can't count on Nintendo to lift the game as far as graphics and home theatre innovation. And they don't seem to be doing too well with online play either.

No use running a 100 metre sprint if you're the only one in it. You can walk it, not break any records, make it boring for the crowds and still get your medal by default. Doesn't make it a good race.

I disagree Bish, if Microsoft was only REAL console in the race, we will be expecting quality and assurance that there next console is not going to brake. No competition means no need to rush to design build and release. And we will get to see mostly all titles with the one console.

Riiight. Like Windows, huh? It's the only real commercial OS for the PC, yet MS drive to bring out innovation and quality? HA HA HA! No.
MS take ideas from free OSs like Linux, or the pathetic excuse for competition that is Apple OSX. They copy them poorly and Windows crashes more often than any other OS available. It is also one of the least secure.

Now put that into gaming consoles. There are no free gaming consoles for MS to copy, and let's make nintendo the gaming Apple. So far behind, but they're happy in their position since they cater for a different market.
Who's MS gonna copy from? Who's going to make competition that will drive console prices down?
MS lost money on the launch console. They did this to get more consoles into homes before Sony launched. Do you honestly think they would lose money on a console that has no competition? NO!
People would pay over $1000 for a console if it was the only one available. Either that or they wouldn't game. There's no choice in the matter, really.

And when would MS bring out this new console? My money is on NEVER! Why would they? The 360 is the only console available and people buy games for it. No need to bring out a new one. What? Nintendo's bringing out another Gamecube with crappy graphics? Who cares? The 360 still has better graphics than that..

We NEED competition. Competition drives everything to do with technology. Get with the times. It's all about money and has been for an extremely long time.

Imagine this, you just turned 16 and you're in the market for a new car. You go out and look and the only company that makes a car on the market is Ford, and they only car they offer is a 4 door sedan. You need a car so what do you do, you buy it with no other choice. Now it's 4 years later and your car has seen better days and you figure, "Ah what the hell, it's time for a new one." so you go looking again and you find out that Ford is still the only on who makes cars and since there is no competition they have to reason to invest money in improvements, so what did you have to do buy another car that is the exact same model as you have now. What else does this do, it kills the value of the car. Since it's the only car you can buy everyone either has that car or nothing at all. Point at hand is simple without competition the public will get screwed and the manufacturer will rake in the dough.

^^^^Microsoft Windows, a case in point, unless you're a proficient computer user that knows his stuff, Windows is the only OS you can buy. Then Microtwat can and indeed do charge exorbitant prices for it. Competition is good, it keeps things moving and improving.

Wow, you're saying Sony fanboys? You're blatently a 360 fanboy, the PS3 is doing fine, it's a bargain for what you're getting and as soon as the first price drop happens i bet they will sell soooo many more. As it's a great deal, they aren't going to ditch the PS3 when it broke Europes launch record. Over double then the 360...
