Yeah, I stream them fine, it works great, when it works.
Make sure that your xbox is allowed to share in WMP. (I think the guide is at the beginning of this thread)
For some reason I can't play .mp4 files though?
They're bog stock MP4 codec, and play fine on PSP/iPods.
Who knows.

Have you power cycled your modem?
I spose you would have turning off the power!
Do you have 4 port desktop switch? You could connect the modem, the Xbox and the PC from this.
That's how I used to do it, but I now have a 4 port wireless modem.

after giving up trying to get my pc to share media to my 360, this morning i started up my computer and started up windows media player and a box came up saying that some settings had changed (i downloaded some windows updates the night before - dont know if thats what did it tho) and i had to reconfigure my media sharing settings or something. then i went to the media sharing option under library and the media share box was already ticked so i clicked ok then it came up with devices its sharing to and xbox 360 appeared on the list!!!
im just about to turn on my 360 to see if it work properly.
Thanks for all the help jimmy and bennie

ok now im really pissed off! windows media player allows xbox 360 as a sharing device but my 360 still isnt picking up my pc!!! it passes the network adapter test (wired) the wireless network one is left blank. ip address is confirmed but it fails at selected pc. i even went into my network and sharing centre and disabled the need of administrator password to enable sharing, i went to my music folder and went to properties and enabled sharing. but nothing is working!!!

It sounds like a firewall problem.
It really does. It's allowing incoming connections, but not outgoing.
Hum.... I don;t know, it's got me stumped.
You've turned off your Windows Firewall, you have no 3rd party firewall or internet security package. Media Player picks up the macihine, but doesn't allow the connection.
I know your not stoopid, but when trouble shooting stuff it helps to retrace your steps. Try this again, letter for letter:
Quote:
To set up Windows Media Player 11 on a PC running Windows XP
1. Connect your console to your PC as described above or using one of the connection types described in Connect to Xbox LIVE.
2. Go to the Windows Media Player 11 download page at Microsoft Corporation to download the software.
Depending on your region, Windows Media Player 11 may also be available at Xbox.com | Xbox 360 Media Download Center.
3. Click Windows Media Player Software (or, if you followed the link for a manual download, choose your operating system and follow the instructions).
4. Run the software setup on your PC and follow the prompts.
5. When setup is complete, Windows Media Player should automatically start. If not, open it.
6. In Windows Media Player, click Library, Media Sharing.
7. Select Share my media, OK. Windows Media Player will search for devices on your network.
8. Click your console, then click Allow. If you want to apply more options, click Settings. When done, click OK.
9. On your Xbox 360 console, in the Media area of the Xbox Dashboard, select Music, Pictures, or Video.
10. If your PC's content is not displayed, press X and select your PC.

im looking in the downloads section of windows media player 11 but it only has downloads for xp, and i am running vista. before i had to re install windows i didnt need to download anything to enable sharing.
should i try turning off the firewall again and shutting down my pc, 360 and modem and leaving them for a little while and start them all up again and see if it works?

Hi..This is my first post and im having some problems with my network..
Im using Linksys WRT54G router(wired)and my music/videos are "lagging"/buffering way to long...I had to format my computer the other day, I set my network back up and everything was running fine. I turned on my xbox connected to LIVE and its working great. But when i try to play music/videos i get some problems, my music cuts in and out and my videos take forever to load and has to buffer...
I had this same setup before the format and my music/videos worked great(no buffering)
Anyone have a solution?
Edit: Im using Windows Media Connect 2.0
