oh woe
I am at the end of my tether here - having read other tales of woe all night I couldn't find anyone with the same problem as me. Here's where I am at. I have an XBox 360 - it's fired up as is my laptop running windows XP Service Pack 2. WMP 11 is installed but it doesn't see my XBox and nor does the XBox see the laptop - they are connected with a wired connection - ethernet crossover cable. Incidentally the laptop is wirelessly connected to the internet via a router. Now, all I want the damn thing to do is share media and given the four lines of instruction on the Microsoft web site it doesn't seem like I am asking for much. What the hell am I doing wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

You need to manually set your IP addresses on both the Xbox 360 and the Laptop.
Basically you need to set one to:
IP: 192.168.1.1 - Subnet: 255.255.255.0
and the other:
IP: 192.168.1.2 - Subnet 255.255.255.0
That way when you plug them together with the crossover cable they'll be able to talk on the same network.
That should sort it out.
Also, make sure that all your firewalls are turned off while connected like this.

Is there a way to play MKV files that I have in my PC ? When I try to play it on the xbox 360 I get an error message for incorerct format.
Is the Transcode360 my solution ?
Thank you !
