the xbox 360 controller uses either 2 batteries, or a battery pack..the battery pack can be charged via a play and charge kit if you want....

Go for the Premium.
The core is just not worth it because your gonna buy the Harddrive or at least the memory cards. And it only comes with a wired controller. If you buy all the accessories later, that the Premium has, it goes beyond $350.
I'm not sure if the Elite is worth it. I mean basically you get the larger Hard drive and HDMI cable. But since the Premium already has that now, the only thing left is the Hard drive. Is a larger hard drive what you need? Are you gonna be downloading tons of movies with your 360?
Or you can wait till the rumored arcade version. It's basically the core, but with a 512 memory card and some arcade games. Rumored to come out Christmas time.

Well, I think that should do it. You guys have been great and extremely helpful. I like to research items I'm buying so I don't regret it later & you have certainly taken the time to steer me in the right direction.
If I have any more questions I know where to go!
Thanks again!

One more thing... is there anything in particular I need to do or be aware of to help avoid the problems that have plagued the 360 so far & do I need to buy an extended warranty?

dont move it when its got a disk in it.
allow good air movement like you would do with a pc (dont put it in an enclosed space)
i have had mine 8 months and dont have any issues with it.
o dont bother with intercoolers, they can cause issues i have read.
xbox 360s can be loud ish but after a few weeks it dont bother you as much

The only benefit you will get from the Elite is the 120GB HDD - and thats hardly required just yet. A HDMI connection on a 42" HDTV will not show any noticable improvement either. Id say save the extra money.
For the price you would pay for the Elite you can pick up a premium with several games and accessories. Trust me, I did, and I still made a saving.
Go with the premium, it sthe best value for money.

Elite once they give the HDMI. You get a larger HD (I'm pretty sure unless they also changed it to 120 for Premium). So not only do you get a 100 GB larger HD but you also get an HDMI cord which is 50 bucks easily.

What are you talking about?
The Elite has always come with an HDMI. The newest premiums are now coming standard with and HDMI. Premium still has 20gb hd. Elite has 120gb hd.
Also, the HDMI cord can be had for much cheaper than $50.

I thought of another question. I currently play my Xbox games on my 42" DLP/HDTV thru the r/y/w cable. Would I notice a PQ difference playing original Xbox games on the Xbox 360 under the same config? What if I used the HDMI?
Thanks!

basic answer yes you get a slightly better pic, and on some games you get a better draw distance.
