After fall update - still can't play AVI files

My wife game me a cool little Flip Video recorder for Christmas and I thought it would be perfect for taking quick everyday movies of our family. So far, so good.

Then I remembered that with the Fall Update that the Xbox was supposed to be able to play Avi files through the Media Blade (using Windows Media Connect or WMP 11). Awesome - this should be as simple as loading the Avi files from my flip video device to a shared folder on my network and then making sure that I added the shared folder to my WMP library. I did all that and I can see the files on the 360 but when I go to play them I get an error message that basically tells me that it can't open the file.

The first time I tried it told me that I needed to download an update. I did that and it didn't work. I noticed others were having a similar problem and when they re-downloaded the update it fixed their problem. I tried that - no dice.

So I called Xbox support. Holy shit. They suck. I knew more about the device than they did - although they are going to have a senior support specialist call me back tonight or tomorrow night. They really pissed me off though. They actually tried to tell me that the Xbox didn't support Avi files. I had to specifically remind them that that was the WHOLE DAMN POINT of the fall update was to support Divx, Xvid, Avi (which is really Divx anyway) files. Only then did the support tech elevate my call - she was actually going to try to get rid of me by telling me that it wasn't supposed to work. THAT pissed me off.

Does anyone have ANY clue what my problem might be? I can play the file just fine on my PC so I know it's not corrupted.

Also - one other question. Am I supposed to be able to play Mpeg-2 files from the media blade? I can play them just fine within the Media Center but when try to browse to them in the media blade the Xbox tells me that there are no video files in the folder.

The Xbox 360 supports files encoded using MPEG-4 Part 2, Simple and Advanced Simple Profile. These files are often referred to as Xvid or DivX® video files. Many common PC DVD authoring tools, cameras, and camcorders are capable of encoding files using MPEG-4. Note that some files authored for DivX devices may also contain additional functionality(menus, subtitles, multiple audio tracks, etc). The Xbox 360 will attempt to play these files, but does not support any of the additional functionality and in some cases will be unable to play the file. Since the 360 only supports Mpeg-4 compatible codec implementations, it will not be able to play video files older than DivX® 5.0. Hope that helps.
