Status Code 51-c00df236
I have an external hard drive which i store my pics, movies etc onto and was watching a movie (avi) 2 hours ago from the hard drive and now when i try and play any movie from the external hard drive it comes up with this message.....A media is required to play this content. To get the update sign into xbox live and play the content again:status code 51-c00df236 i downloaded the media required but still wont allow me so deleted it and downloaded again to no avail. Any info on this would be much appreciated.

I searched the internet but found nothing useful so i copied all my game saves and profile to a memory card and formatted the hard drive and it seems to be working ok again

You'll get this error if you previously downloaded the media update on another Xbox 360 console (or if it's been repaired/replaced as in my case) with the same profile. You are only allowed to download the update on one console per profile. You can work around this by creating a temporary new profile with Silver membership to download the update. Once it's downloaded, you will be able to use the update with any profile.

i'm getting the same error, and it obviously says "to get the update, sign in to xbox live and play the content again" but when i sign into live it just plays the video w/o downloading the update. then the next time i try to play the video offline i get the same error message

The most recent update disallows, external storage devices from connecting to your xbox 360. That is most likely your problem.
Sorry mate it sucks, I really cant believe they did that...
THEY BETTER FIX IT!!
