Brand New Elite Console - Red Ring Instantly
Hey guys, any help would be appreciated. I did a search but couldnt find exactly what I was looking for. Here is the email that I sent to Microsoft. I dont want to re type it, so here it is verbatim. Let me know what your thoughts are please?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Microsoft. A quick note for you. I received a brand new Elite X-Box 360 as a gift. I opened up the box and took it out of the cellophane. I set it all up, played Call of Duty 4 online for about 30 minutes and than everything went black. I thought my television had shut off, but it was in fact my brand new Elite console. Within seconds, the three red flashing lights or "red ring of death" as it has become known as started flashing at me. I tried pushing the power button to reset it and nothing. I unplugged the power cord from the back of the console and plugged it back in and it turned on. No red lights, no problem since. I have logged a few more hours on it without any problems. I haven't even had a chance to send in for the extended warranty and I have already had a problem with it. The reason I am writing you this email is because I want both you and I to have a record of this. Red ring of death on March 05th, 2008. I have not had any problems since and I was blown away that it works because I have had friends that when they got the three red lights it never worked again. Once again, this email is just so you guys can note that this console has already had an issue. Until it happens again i will continue to play on it. Thanks for your time Microsoft!
-Michael

This is real talk right here all true. Any ides guys? I can't return it to a local store because it was a gift sent from South Carolina, I am in California. Should I request a repair, or do I just go along with it until it happens again?

You really think anyone's going to keep this? They send a pre-written response at best.
See if it does it again in a month or two's time. If it doesn't you should be fine.

If it's a chain store, they except exchanges. The repair is free. What's the problem?

Like someone else stated, the red rings just mean it has an error...dosen't have to be terminal..could have just been a glitch..but if your worried about it I would just go exchange it..most stores give you 30 days
~good luck

^^ sounds to me like your power cord was a little loose. especially since that remedied the problem. And Microsoft doesnt give a rat's ass that you got RROD 30 minutes after you pulled it out of the box. Your email was basically a waste of your own time. Hell you didnt even waste microsofts time becuase like someone mentioned earlier they will more than likely send you an automated email back.

This all depends on how many lights he had lit up.
RRoD is the 3 lights with the top right un-lit. (I think its right)
Bad wire connection is all 4 lights lit up.
So if it was all 4, then its your wires.

When i first got mine, it froze perhaps 2hrs into COD4. Then thinking it could have been the cd, i put in another one and it would just be loading. So packed it up and went back to gamestop and they gave me a new one. This one has given me no problems. Good luck. If it happens again just call them up and have them repair it, it will be free of charge.
