360 connecting to hd and also monitors

Hi all just bought a 360 this morning. Very happy if i could play it lol. I have a phillips hd ready tv and im trying to get that to show the picture but i cant. On the quickstart instructions card you get inside the box it shows the red yellow and white plugs going into a normal tv and a hd tv picture but that shows alot more coloured wires. My hd ready tv doesnt have these other colours only the red yellow and white connectors?? So when i play it its pal 60 and not in any form of hd. I tried 1080 down to the 400 watever it is. Excuse my high tech language lol. So how do i get this xbox 360 to play in hd on a hd ready tv.

So having give up on that for now i thought id try it on a windows vista lap top. All i want is it to play through the monitor of the lap top. I bought a vga plug which fits in the back of the lap top and i assumed when you turned on your xbox it would automatically display the picture for the 360 but it just boots up as normal. So also how do i configure it so it will play through the lap top monitor and speakers as i think the picture will be better on that than my old little normal tv i had for my old xbox!.

Thanks for any help

Make sure the switch on the cable is set to HD TV. If you're tv is actually HD then it will have added blue and green slots for you to put the chords in, and then just adjust your settings in the 360 setup menu.

your laptops connection is most probably a VGA output not input.

you might need to purchase one of the other HD cables that are around

I just got my VGA cable today so hopefully ill get HD tonight instead of SD on a bad tv

The tv has HD ready printed on the fron it has no added green or blue slots anywhere unless there hidden in a panel somwhere. Iv just had it set up on my computer monitor ( not the lap top i gave up on that) but the pc monitor has no inbuilt speakers and i cant figure out how i can get sound now lol any ideas. Gunna try to get it working on the tv again lol. Also i have one with a falcon chip but its feeling bloody hot already!

For sound you need to connect the RCA parts of the VGA cable to a stereo or speakers
