Component looks better than hdmi?
Hi there
Sorry if a similar issue was posted before, I couldn't find it.

Has anyone else noticed a sharper image quality when using the component cable vrs the hdmi cable? I swear the image looks better with the component video cable, but according to all the documentation... that doesn't make sense... the hdmi output should have a better picture.

I tried with hdmi different cables, including the microsoft one, with all of them the image looks kinda "soft"

The TV I'm using is the Phillips 23PFL5332 (LCD)

Actually, when Dragon said they looked the same... I went and check the settings on my TV to see if something was configured different between the two ports.

I found out that the component video inputs allow me to adjust the 'sharpness' level. Well, by default, it was set to 2. I changed it to 0 and then both images (the component and the hdmi one) looked the same.

Sadly, the hdmi ports don't have that option... and since I like the way the xbox looks with the 'sharpness' level set to 2 in the TV... I guess, I'll stick with the component video cables for a while

We can close the thread now... it was a TV setting, nothing more.

Depends on the tv I think. My tv I didnt see a big difference but that was for television and that always looks terrible.

You have a tv with an hdmi input and component input and you think it looks terrible? Advise me on that brand/model so we can stay clear of it.
