That could cause a problem yes. When you turn on your Xbox, with all the cables attached to your DVD drive, does the DVD drive make any noise? Like it is turning a motor or something? If it is trying to eject or close the disc tray, that is good news, all you need is a little rubber band, if it doesn't make any noise at all and you have all of the cables plugged in, you might have an issue on your hands, your DVD drive circuit board could be cooked, making it a lot harder to get your DVD key out of the firmware chip.

New developments: I took apart the dvd drive, disconnected the ribbon cables, reconnected and assembled everything again. The dvd drive started responding again but not playing dvd's and it must be the lens that is busted because I cleaned it and its still giving me the "Unplayable disc" error. The drive wasn't opening or closing before because the little rubber band that acts as a pulley between the two wheels that open the tray is broken. So I'm just gonna buy a new one now that I know that its not a electrical problem or any sort of problem within the xbox but rather within the drive itself.

I still have two questions:
Where can I find a good flashing tutorial for my Toshiba Samsung MS25 dvd drive (in case I need it)? Because all I have to do is replace my old DVD PCB with the new dvd drive right? Also, how do I get my DVD key from the firmware chip? Thanks for the help.

You don't need to flash anything. Purchase a new Samsung drive, doesn't matter if it is MS25 or 28.

NEW Samsung TS-H943A Replacment DVD drive for XBox 360 - eBay (item 380047378821 end time Jul-27-08 09:34:07 PDT)

That is the cheapest one. And it is a new drive, there might be cheaper ones, but they probably aren't new. That looks like a reliable seller.

Once you get the drive, take out the new PCB. Put in your PCB that you have now. Remember to be gentle with the ribbon cable connectors and the ribbon cables. Be careful or you could rip the cables and that could end up very bad in the end. Reassemble everything and play.

So you should have the new drive, with your old PCB in it. Then you can sell the new PCB that you got and aren't using on ebay for a couple bucks to make some money back.

Basically your problem is with the disc drive and it could be a couple different things, but it's most likely the DVD drive shit out on you. (probably the motor) Your just going to have to open up your console and replace the drive with a new one. It's not too complicated. But you will have to flash the new drive to get it to work. If you dont feel like doing it yourself, or dont have the knowledge or time to dismantle your console, flash the new drive, then reassemble, I believe Microsoft charges £60 to replace it. Thats not bad considering a new drive is around £30.

heres a tutorial on how to replace the drive and flash the new one.

£ = pounds sterling, right? That is British currency I think. It is at the same value as the euro (€). So £60 = $90 to $100 or more :P
