How to prevent the three red lights --xbox360
1. Put the Xbox 360 in an area where air can flow freely. Do not put it in a home entertainment center where it is enclosed and has no airflow.
2. Do not put the Xbox 360 on a carpet or a blanket. This will block the ventilation and will cause the system to overheat very quickly.
3. Give it a rest - If you feel that the Xbox 360 is getting hot then simply save the game and turn it off for a couple hours. After it cools down a little you can resume gaming without worry. If you continue to play when your system is hot you could cause permanent damage to both the system and your game.
4. Buy a cooling unit. They only cost about $25-30 and they help prevent the Xbox 360 from overheating during long gaming sessions. It may cost a few dollars but it could save your system.
5. Shut the system down when you are done. Sometimes you will just leave it on when you leave because you do not want to wait for the start up time when you want to game again but its not worth the damage it could cause to your Xbox 360. Make sure to check that the system is off when you leave because the wireless controllers tend to turn it on by accident if you put the down upside down.

Service of RROD consoles in Cyprus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as everyone nos that xbox360 is wick of heatsink, with many hours working, the high temperature will destroy GPU,than dots black,oxidation,unsolder...RROD.
what i do is:
dots black pads without or bad contact reballing with new solder balls
AND those fan which i put, their job is protecting new GPU ONLY,"directs the air, for super cooling and flawless gameplay on those long hour gaming sessions! "as Serhan said.
but u also need to take care it very well...... don't keep it working more than 4 hours one time. "after quiting a game to leave my Xbox ON, on the dashboard for about 15-20 minutes, so the temperature could lower a bit, and afterwards shut down the machine" (posted by Serhan)
when u c the temperature indicator shows ur a big number,pls leave it alone for a while,have a rest,give a call 2 ur girl friend...whatever,just a break.
sth else? yes....if u have any quetions about ur consoles,xbox360,ps3,psp,wii....feel free 2 ask me,write here,email me,or come 2 me.am here always.

I've had my 360 for two weeks and haven't gotten the RROD yet which is a relief. I just hope I don't get it cause I'm so scared. I live in Australia and sending it to MS might be an issue for me.

Well the first thing makes sense, but I had no idea they made filters for the Xbox 360. Can you tell me why the first generation Xbox didn't have issues with sucking dust into itself?

I heard these external cooling fans can cause problems with the Xbox 360, any truth in this?

This is what I do to keep my 360:
Keep the 360 in a open area
Don't play for more than 5 hours straight
Keep it horizontal ( thats what i heard)
and thats about it

Use the cooling fan to plug in back, and also use a flat 'notebook' cooling pad which will plug into xbox usb port for it to sit on. Works a treat for me at keeping my xbox running cool.
RROD is traumatic
