Windows media center

I have a pc with windows xp that I have set up with windows media player and I stream my music files to my xbox.For xmas,I got a laptop with vista and therefore I now have windows medis center.We are keeping both computers but can I set up windows media center using our new laptop while keeping our music files through our other pc?Thanks
So basically I want to use one computer for windows media player and one for windows media center.

You sure can. Both work independently. You can also get Media Center to find the files on the other computer and then stream them, so you're running media from both PCs from the one menu.

i am having similar trouble. my xp pc wmp 11 sees the 360 but the xbox can't find pc. also my vista laptop can't see 360 through wmp and can't hook up through extender in media center. all ports have been open. any help would help thanks
