My 360 does everything but play 360 games..

hey everyone i just joined today and i have a question that maybe you guys can help me out with...my friend just gave me his older 360 to see if i can fix..and it does everything (plays xbox games, go online and download demos, play dvd's) BUT it doesn't play xbox 360 games..has anyone else had this problem/what should i do to try and fix this.

i had the same problem, never got it fixed, just lived with it. hope you have better luck than i did.

imo it's most likely a DVD drive problem, but not personally heard of one that plays old xbox games but not 360 ones

you can't just buy another drive and whack it in, it needs to be flashed with the old drives serial number, alternatively i find it easier to buy exactly the same type of DVD drive (3 types used) and swap over the DVD drive pcbs
