replacing broken dvd drive
hello guys, my xbox has just become faulty, when i put in a disc it says "unplayable disc" i have tried both dvd's and xbox games. i have read into replacing the dvd drive as it looks like the laser must be broken. what is this "key" all about? where could i find out what my key is? any help would be amazing.
cheers guys

i would like to go into detail on helping but this forum dont like talking bout keys or flashing...what kind of dvd drive you got cuz there are other methods of going by fixing your drive without extracting the key

hi, i never tried to flash this drive. i changed the laser and i think i messed about with the PCB and it broke a little. i have another drive which i swapped the broken PCB into, BUT last night when i tried doing it again, for some strange reason jungleflasher kinda picked it up!! hurrah!! but when i tried dumping the drive and getting the key it said it couldnt find any f/w :S . So i unhooked it from the pc and hooked it back to the xbox, for some strange reason it works now plays all my 360 games but it keeps makin them crash. however it will not crash when watchin a dvd. any suggestions guys??

i had a play around with the drive before and mangaged to get the key off it. i saved the firmware as a .bin file, this is all i need from the PCB isn't it? if i get a new drive i can save this .bin file to that and it should work????

i jst got my new hitachi drive, flashed it with my original drive key and when i put it bak in the xbox 1 red light came on :S so i took it out and back in the pc and i hacked it with an upgraded firmware but when back in the xbox it still had a red light. I tried another drive in the xbox and that was fine, no red lights. so what could i have done wrong?
