Wrapping it in towels (the "towel trick" as it has become known as) is a temporary fix. While it does indeed work at getting your console to work again, it is very temporary. It will probably only last a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the condition of your motherboard, and then go back to the flashing red lights. Even worse, it causes unnecessary strain on the board and heats components that are sensitive to heat. Repeating the trick a few times can worsen the condition of your board and prevent better fixes from working. Overall, the towel trick is a bad idea, use the X-Clamp Replacement fix or, even better, the "Team Hybrid's X-Clamp Replacement". Both are much better, permanent fixes that prevent further damage to your motherboard. I personally like the idea behind the Hybrid fix, it is relatively new but I modded my old console (a Xenon from 2006) yesterday (had the original X-clamp replacement mod already done but I changed it to the hybrid one and it is working great).
