Unhappy How to connect Xbox 360 core console to Xbox live??

Hey everybody, two days back I bought an xbox 360 core console from my friend. He never used it so gave it to me for half the money, alongwith a few games. But now I am stuck with this big issue. Whenever I try to connect my console to Xbox Live, it ask me to update the software, and tells me that I need to have atleast 128mb memory space on my memory stick, but I do have only 64mb memory stick.

I need to know if its possible to use a USB HDD or a pendrive to update the software. Buying a new Xbox HDD for 5k INR, is too costly a solution. I would rather sell the console, which I bought just for 6k INR. I just need 1gb space or may be less, to update the console's software and connect to Xbox Live. I do have a desktop for my music and other items, so bigger space is totally unneccesary investment for me.

I did tried using my phone's memory card and a USB adapter, but its not even detected by the console. If anyone can tell me that usb drive will work for that update, I can buy a compatible one for 500INR only. I know its a dumb question to ask, but still this will help me save enough money to buy two new games, and stop going back to pirated games. Or else I have no option but to mod the console and use pirated games. Afterall I will be playing only Single Player campaigns, so why the hell should I pay 2k for every game, when I can just download it for free.

I don't even have a gamertag yet, thanks to this stupid issue. Please help me stay clear of piracy. Oh, sorry, If this question is already posted somewhere. I wasn't able to find any thread for this issue, hence creating a new one.

umm to my knowledge (which isnt very much) you will need a hard drive made by microsoft, for the xbox 360, i know you can use xternals to play media, and such, but i highly doubt you can us an external USB drive as a HDD because microsoft loves making you pay way too much money for memory.

You either have to buy a hard drive or buy a 512mb memory card to update XBL. External drives are read only with the 360 and can't be used to install anything at all.

Yes Jitendar, either you should want to buy 512MB memory card or xbox harddrive. You can get 20gb hard drives easily in india for cheaper cost.

By the way why you buy core system for Rs.6000/-? Now a days xbox arcade is costing only 7500/- and it is coming with 512Mb memory and some games also.

I checked out price for arcade console, on ezone, microsoft site, and a few other stores in bangalore. Everywhere it was priced at 16k. So, by that standard it seems a fair deal. Anyways can't I even use a pendrive to update the software? Also, any idea about the cost of memory stick in India??

In India everybody is selling xbox arcade at a price of 16K is twice than here in Bahrain. I have checked the price for arcade in Carrefour = 82 bahrain dinar, Sharaf DG = 80BD with 5 games and 512Mb memory card. I don't know why the price is high in India. For 16K IRS we can get xbox elite console here in Bahrain (139.990 BD) only with CoD.

You can download the new software from xbox com and burn it to a dvd then u can install the program to your console. But where it can store? For storing the data's you want a xbox hdd or memory stick. xbox can read pen drives only for media files.

Cost of Memory stick 512 MB in India is around 2600/-IRS.

You can purchase xbox pro console from a website which is costing only 155 euros. I have contacted them thru email and they are saying that they are the trustiest one from china. But I'm not sure. you can contact them and 155 euros equals to Rs.10000/- in which you can get 60GB hard drive, multimedia remote etc. I don't know whether I can post the website address here. Anyway PM me then I'll give you the website address.

Hi,

I tried to send PM to you, but atleast we need to post 15 messages, then we can send PM. Anyway given below are the link, but I can't post full website address. So I replaced"." as dot.
This is the website address: www dot electro2008 dot com

I have chatted with them and they are saying they are not a fraud company, and they will give full guarantee on their products. In their website xbox 360 is showing as sony xbox 360, I think they have made mistake. It is your full responsibility to have a transaction with them. You can place an order, then you can chat or email them, then surely they will contact you. But be aware about fraud companies.

I have place an order with them, but finally I found that I can get xbox 360 little bit costlier than them here in Bahrain, so I purchase from Bahrain and there is no problem with the guarantee.

Thanks

@santhua

That site is selling just the console. I need an HDD for cheaper prices, somewhere in range of 2-3k. May be you can tell me about some store in Bahrain who can ship to India as well.

Can anyone please tell me a way to buy the hdd for cheaper rates or the memory stick?

Also, if I use someone else's memory stick for a day to update the software and connect to xbox live and then return the stick back to the owner, will I be able to retain the updates or be able to connect to live?? That way I can really save a lot of money. Obviously buying an HDD for cheaper rates is a better option as always.
