Win7/360 Media Center setup

I'm having trouble getting my 360 to work as an extender on my new network with Windows 7.

Here's the setup:

360 is hooked up to a switch, switch goes to router, router to cable modem

PC is hooked up to router, router to cable modem

I've gone through all the steps to setup the system, got my code from the xbox, setup a new extender on media center on the pc, enter code, then I get an error telling me that I'm getting a network error. Any ideas? Was I specific enough?

Thanks in advance

Are we talking a 4 port router and everything's connected via cable? If that's the case then in this scenario it's basically acting like another switch and we can rule that out.

Funnily enough I wrote the sticky guide to connecting MCE to the 360 a while back and yet I ran into exactly the same issue with Windows 7. I haven't bothered troubleshooting it, though. If I get time today I'll see if I can nut it out.

Yes, 4 port router with a 16 port switch wired to it. Everything is wired, no wireless. I've even tried hooking direct up to the router without the switch and still a no go.

The weird thing is, my pc see's the xbox, and the xbox see's PlayOn coming from the pc. I'm going to try and tackle the problem again tonight, perhaps I'll find the snag.

I've got it working.

I reset windows firewall to default, switched from a "work" network to a homegroup and configured sharing from there. After that it worked as easily as it should have.

Hmm.. At least you got yours going easily enough. I did all that when originally troubleshooting it (Homegroups are MS's greatest invention so far!), but I've still only got one way traffic.
Oh well, I've been using Tversity and it does everything I need it to do.
