I don't understand XCM add on fans

I looked at Lethal's add on fan. It's not from XCM.
He attached it right next to the CPU heatsink.

but take a look at this.

This is XCM model.
this fan will make the air go up and down(of 360 when it's in horizontal position) but it won't go left and right.
so how can it cool down the heatsink? i don't understand.
I mean it can cool the additional heatsink that they added since the air flow is up and down and there is heatsink below
the fan. but it won't cool the original CPU and GPU heatsink like they advertised.

and also the 2nd add on fan looks even worse. It's in diagnol position and it will only cool the 360 case.

Maybe it will make the overall airflow better. But it won't directly cool the heatsink as they advertised. That's what I think.
but spending extra $20 for the 2nd add on fan from the original $10 add on fan seems too costly.

The one in front of the CPU heatsink will do stuff. It will blow air down onto the secondary GPU heatsink, then under the DVD drive to the main GPU heatsink and blow air right into the CPU heatsink....the other one on the side...looks like it won't do jack shit...

by the way, you guys know that the air will only flow into one direction. So even though I said it will flow up and down, it's actually gonna be either up or down, but not in both direction. If it actually blows upward, air won't even heat the 2nd GPU heatsink which i think is also pointless.

I think so because this fan actually came out before 2nd GPU heatsink was added to 360 so XCM might have thought that it doesn't matter even if it flows upward.

My guess is both of those fans suck air in, and then it's expelled out the back through the factory air duct. Since there's 2 fans bring air in it would make positive cool air pressure, which is usually a good thing for hardware.
That diagonal one looks like it's just sitting there, not mounted to anything yet. Maybe the modder was still planning on mounting that fan on the case.

Hmmm.. Ok, I don't understand the theory behind it then!

I am just guessing that

1) it doesn't DIRECTLY cool the heatsink down.
2) instead, what it does is to make the OVERALL airflow inside the 360.
3) I still think DIRECTLy cooling the heatsink down like Lethal did is better than making the OVERALL airflow better but I guess it's still better then just solely relying on the main cooler which will only suck the air NEAR the main cooler, not the hot air that's located FAR from the main cooler.
4) adding these two small fans will make the hot air FAR from the main cooler move closer to the main cooler thus making the main cooler do its job more effectively.

these are my theory but i could be wrong.

edit: u know what? i think the 2nd add on small fan is actually making the air out of the 360 thru the small metal holes of the case.

I agree with that. I don't think the one on the side will do much. It is facing the side of the heatsink only allowing the air to it the first heatsink. I say just do a mod like lethals.

Personally I do not like those XCM add-on fans. Like a PC I feel the heatsink needs a fan directly on it.
