I have both. Xbox > Ps3.
Ps3 is essentially just my Blu-Ray player with other goodies attached.

(honestly does it really matter though? Both systems are great)

I'm not a 360 f4nb0y, as I have played both consoles equally as 3 of my friends have ps3s and 2 of my friends have 360s. I have to admit that the 360 is better. I don't even have to name why...

Honestly right now it doesn't really matter, seeing as the consoles are both pretty much on the same level. Xbox is more set on the gaming feature, while PS3 also concentrates on the media, which it can offer and does offer to the customers.
And for what it matters, there are many factors which could change from here on. For all we know, there could even be a third party console which will outsell them both lol.
If and when the PS3 will outsell the Xbox 360 both for it's quality and price, then that'll have to be taken when it comes.
And plus, i honestly don't think that Microsoft will let Sony take the lead, seeing as they can offer a lot as well in the gaming world.
It's all just one big question mark

I agree with Lethal. Although the 360 is obviously the more dominant console in the industry at the moment, I cant see it as having a very long life. A few more years at the most. Although the PS3 has had a slow start, I can see it having a much longer life cycle then the 360. Its a complete entertainment machine, with its built in BD player etc, and belongs more in the living/family room, whereas, in my view, the 360 is more of a 'bedroom console'.

If the 360 had a built in HD drive, it would have been able to sustain a longer life cycle. There will come a time when developers will battle with the space limitations of DVD9, and with how far they can push their compression techniques. The PS3 has the benefit of the BD player built in, meaning developers have a better CPU, and [at the moment] very little space constraint. If games on the PS3 at the moment are uncompressed, imagine what developers could do when they start using compression etc. It'll lead to much longer, and much more in depth games, with much better quality uncompressed audio.

All in all, the PS3 have the right package, just at the wrong price. As technology develops, prices will drop. As the prices drop, sales will increase. The PS3 will be developed further and we'll see smaller and slimmer versions, which buyers find much more attractive.

The 360 is probably at its peak right now, with a dominant game library of some awesome games. Nevertheless, I believe the PS3 is no way near its peak yet, and the best is yet to come.

all microsoft has to say is if you want a great gaming experience, 360.
for a great media center, with some gaming attatched, PS3.

And I can't get a great gaming experience on ps3 apparently? 360 is outselling ps3 cuz it's cheaper, only reason why. Microsoft charges a cheaper price and then nickels and dimes whereas ps3 has everything included and so appears more expensive.

It's not about what people want, it's about what Game devs want in terms of disc size, isn't it? For example, for Lionhead to fit everything in Fable 2 onto the disc, they needed to compress everything tenfold, whereas they wouldn't need such drastic compresssion with a blu-ray.

No that is not the reason. That is one of the MANY reasons people choose the xbox 360 over the ps3. Just so happens the game lineup on 360 is better and the live on the xbox 360 is better/more well known.

So price is not the only thing. I payed close to 400$ for my first xbox 360 (preorderd a bundle when it first came out) and I would have been willing to spend much more just because of the amazing game lineup and the xbox live. That was mine main selling point for the 360 the fact that the live was just amazing, and has gotten even better. When I ask any of my friends "oh shit why didn't you buy a ps3" The first thing they say is because of xbox live and the games out for it now suck. (in there and opinions).

So its not just the price.
