Thanks, that answers my question. Unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem, but at least now I know that whatever is wrong isn't the fault of my setup.
I'll be calling up MS shortly. I hope it's nothing serious, I'm not the most patient person in the world.

I only excluded it because I only have experience with the premium system, and if the 1 month does come with the core I never saw it advertised. They used the 1 month gold as a selling point for the premium...

So I called MS today.
I gave them all my info, told them what router I'm using (Linksys WCG200 Wireless-G).. gave them the error codes. He puts me on hold for about 15 minutes then comes back and tells me to try it on a router from their compatabilty list, he didn't say anything about the codes at all.
My router is 150 bucks, and the Linksys routers that they showed on their list would be a big step down. I don't have money to throw around getting a new router just because MS can't figure out what's wrong.. and I certainly can't afford to try out the 100 dollar wireless network adaptor they sell.
What do you guys suggest I do? Is getting on live hopeless at this point? I can't justify replacing a 150 dollar router with a 50 dollar one on a 'test' to see if that's the problem. MS was no help at all, and I'm not going to send in my console. I've never once had problems or red lights. Man this is pissing me off.

Does nobody have any ideas? I've never once been able to connect to live. I rearranged my entire room to get things to the proper distances. I've gone to a lot of trouble, made phone calls, searched this forum and others.. no luck whatsoever.
I've heard so many horror stories about this kind of shit. Has nobody else had a similar problem? Can anyone a little more knowledgable than me about networks and XBL give me at least a direction to go in? At this point I'm not even trying anymore. There's only so much you can do when the shit is hooked up correctly and it still won't work.

Try opening ports on your router (use port forwarding)
If that doesnt work, check the routers manufacturers homepage and see if there is a new firmware that might help.
But looking at your profile if doom 3 and dead rising are your only games why do you need live? Is doom 3 even on live? and I know dead rising isnt cause its a shitty game overall...
you could always disconnect the router and go directly into the cable modem when you wanna play on live..
also, you may want to try setting the network settings manually on the xbox360, I know my router and my friends routers (both linksys) were very finicky when it came to that shit. Automatic never worked correctly, but setting up all the numbers manually worked fine.

I only OWN those 2 games, but I've got over 4300 gamerpoints and 17 games racked up. I'm a compulsive renter. Right now I have Rainbow Six: Vegas, and I was really hoping I'd at least get try try it out on LIVE. I'm also getting GOW for Christmas, and wanted everything to be all set up.
What you're saying about automatic has peaked my interest though, as well as opening ports. Again forgive my ignorance here but networks are one thing I know next to nothing about. Could you give me sort of a step by step? I'd really appreciate it.
FYI though my router is a modem/router in one.. so I don't really have the option of plugging it directly into the modem. Unless of the course an old motorola surfboard would work. Thanks for the reply.

well you cant really just switch it to the surfboard, you'd hafta call the cable company and give them the numbers on the back in order to allow the internet to work through that modem. But ok, umm so your modem is a modem and router in one? could you give me a brand and model number... Honestly never heard of one of those... (maybe just cause I've never needed one)

I already posted the model number, but for easy reference it's a Linksys WCG200 Wireless-g. I was just throwing the surfboard out there as a 'just in case it worked'.. I'd really rather not dust it off. I'd lost the internet connection to the downstairs computer.

ahh my bad, didnt realize you posted the model number already. Alright, well I'll try to walk you through opening ports on a linksys router, but your screens are going to be different than the ones i can picture in my head from my router.
open up a web browser and type in http://192.168.1.100 i think thats the default it might be http://192.168.1.1 i cant remember
but this will get you into the web-app for your router. Now you need to click on the tabs and find "port forwarding" now you might as well fire up the xbox360 and start setting the network settings manually, the only numbers you'll need to find are your ISP's DNS numbers... you can prolly find them on the computer by double clicking the network icon in the lower right toolbar, there should be 2 ip addresses for DNS.
Ok, now, on the xbox360 in network settings start setting everything manually.
IP: 192.168.1.111 (use this exact number if the above was the correct IP to access the web app, cause I'm sure nothing is using this ip already)
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Make sure to run the test after you do this otherwise it doesnt save the numbers for some reason.
It'll prolly fail on the DNS part, no problem you're gonna set those manually anyways.
So do that next, after you've found the DNS numbers set those up manually in the xbox. Try that, if it doesnt work, forward the ports for the ip address 111

Alright I'm going to get on that right this second. Thanks for going to the trouble, and I'll let you know what happened once I'm done.
