Xbox Live Failed. Help please
So I finally brought my router upstairs and got everything hooked up to go live. I went through all the steps.. and set it up properly. When I tried to 'join xbox live' it failed.
I go to the network settings and do the test. Everything passes until it gets to Xbox Live, then it fails every time. What's the deal?
I thought that maybe it meant I didn't have an account.. ok, so how do I get one? I have a credit card if I need it.. and what about the free month of gold with the premium pack?
Am I correct in thinking that failing on that portion means it cant find my account, or does it mean something else? I've spent 2 hours messing with this stuff. I could really use some help.

When it fails at the Xbox LIVE part you can look into the details on why it failed (I think it is the "Y" button). Good luck.

I did that and it was a blank screen. Would posting the codes help? They didn't mean much to me when I looked at them.

I have had no such luck with codes. I search them at the Microsoft support site and get nothing.

Lame. Any ideas what I should do? I'm really at a loss right now.
I can go buy a membership card tomorrow, but would that do any good or does this mean I can't connect at all? I find it really odd that everything else passes (very quickly) then Xbox LIVE fails every single time.

Hmm, have you tryed ringing Microsoft directly? They're usually pretty good, and it's free. I have no idea why it wouldn't be working at that stage

if you dont even have a silver account you need to make one. Try that first, and if its a premium system, when you sign up for silver it'll tell you that you get a month of gold free. Do that first before you do anything else.

Same thing goes for the core system. Why do people always exclude this point?

Forgive my ignorance here, but I've never really been a part of the 'online community' before. Not even on PC (except for a little HL2). Xbox live will be my first venture into multiplayer.
How do I sign up for silver then? I was wondering if that was the problem.. but don't you have to connect to live to sign up? I'm a little confused. Thanks in advance.

Ok, here's how it goes, your "Name" that is used on your 360 hardrive...AFTER you get online it will tell you you need to register a gamertag, it will normally go off your actual hardrive name (If it's avaliable that is) Then that will be a silver account and from there it will tell you you have a 1 month trial (This is with ALL silver accounts it does not matter which console version you own) But back to square one, you cannot even get online, i would seriously try to ring microsoft and ask them (They are the experts) But i can safley tell you it's NOT because you haven't got a silver account as you need to go online in the first place, hope you get it working
