You need what is called a "crossover" cable. They look exactly like normal ethernet cables, but 2 of the wires inside the cable are crossed over so you can hookup 2 things without using a router.
Also, I know you can do it in Windows XP but I am not sure about other OS's.
So if you get a cross over cable and hook it up to your 360 and laptop, go to
start>control panel>network connections
You should probably have like 2 or 3. One will be something to do with your wireless adapter on your laptop, and one will be called "local area connection".
Hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard and click on both the local area connection icon and the other icon (that is called wireless connection or w/e)
so you should have both of those icons selected. now right click and hit bridge connections, it takes like 5 mintues to bridge them, then you should be good!
