I have the same problem and if it is that my router doesn't allow the microsoft reciever, i'm gonna go mental so i hope that it's just a factory failure!

Ok I'v tried two other network adapters and both have the same problem, one of these was brand new and the other was one of my mates. Which I know works. So its looking like an issue with my Xbox, any ideas?

Im having EXACTLY the same problem, the network settings on the xbox are greyed out and it just doesnt recognise it. The adapter lights on steady red all the time, tried resetting EVERYTHING no joy.
Im wondering if its a faulty adapter now as i bought mine brand new today 16/04/08. Any help would be gratefull though.

Thats unusual.
1. do you have any issues when connected 'wired'? if not, when you are connected that way, then plug the usb adaptor into your 360 and see if it finds the network wirelessly also.
2. when the 360 wireless dongle is connected, you will see a green light on it, not red. Red means there's a fault! could be hardware. maybe the usb port on ur 360 is faulty!

Try a different usb port on the 360. It may just be the one on the rear end is knackered.
