We've had a lot of returns on them lately, exactly same thing as described here, i'd say it could be faulty!!

I exchanged my adapter for a new one and i plugged it in when the console was on and it worked!!!!!!!!! maybe it was the adapter but perhaps you could try putting your adapter in when you console is already on, with no game in.... Good luck!!!!

Still no luck folks, iv taken the adapter back and got a new one but still having the same issues, I read on another site about some guy having the same problem. He tried phoning customer support but they didnt know what was causing this, its as if the console hasnt established that youv changed from wired to wireless. Im gonna try my adapter on a firends xbox tonight. I'll let you know tomorow.

to be honest, ive heard the microsoft adapter is a piece of junk
for the price you paid for it, you could have gotten a wireless N router and usb adapter for the pc (if you need it)
my only guess is that possibly your gateway (wireless router or whatever) is not compatible with the microsoft adapter
im pretty sure they have a list of compatible gateways on the xbox website, try and search for it and you'll see
you can not use pc usb adapters on the xbox. you need drivers to install a usb adapter to a pc and u obviously cant do it on an xbox now can you. think before you post next time.

wow omletduefromag.. you're a goddamn idiot and a half. Do us all a favor and keep your fat pudgy ass infront of your xbox and never post again since your replies are niether helpful or funny.
To everyone else, the issue is inside the Xbox360 itself. It does not recognize the WIRELESS ADAPTER... The adapter is FINE, so quit screwing around with your goddamn router, adapter returns and positioning of your xbox. Just like the ring of red lights, you're gonna have to send your console in for a pap smear. There is no other option here for wireless.

Yep. I dare you to go exchange the adapter you just bought for a brand new one and then test it on both xboxs again. Infact, do that a few times... ... ... ... .. .. .... ... I wasnt happy about it either.

When i do a Xbox Live or a Media test it says that the network adapter is "Disconnected", and all the advice i seem to be able to find is try taking it out and plugging it back in and that really dosnt make any difference.
I dont have an ethernet cable plugged in, although i did used to have it wired. Could there be some setting to change my console over to wireless? i have tried re-setting to the factory settings and have even tried maintenace on my hard drive, but with no luck. And I have tried the adapter on all the USB ports.
Im using a Orange Livebox, and the Official Microsoft Adapter, and i have 3 other pc's the have been able to connect to the network fine which makes me think its an issue with my xbox.
Has anybody else had this problems of know whats causing the "Wireless Mode" panel to be unavaliable?
Cheers.

I'm having this same problem exactly.... interesting part... I have an adapter on one xbox360 that will work on both of my xboxes, but the one I just purchased will not. I've even taken the one back and exchanged it for another, still won't see it. All I get is a stupid solid red light. I can take the working adapter and attach it to either xbox... works fine... but the two adapters that I recently purchased will not work on either xbox... this is jacked!!!!

Same problem here - we've tried two adaptors and no joy. Red light on constant, but wireless settings grayed out in the network settings. Tried all ports.
About to try a firmware update through the wired side to see if that cures it.
