how come i can connect to live with silver and dl vid clips like game trailers and even dl game demos and they work but yet when i test the live connection in system settings it usually gets stuck on mt and if it makes it past that it errors on icmp
when i was connected and put on Gears of war it wanted ot an update which it then couldn't do.
so maybe without mtu and icmp confirming i just wont be able to get that update which is for playing online which i cna't do anyway as i dont havce gold and my current connection setup wont let me do that anyway so i gues maybe i shouldn't worry about it.
i;d just like to see all the stuff confirm. sounds like maybe its because i have a netgear router which uses the 192.168.0.1 which is the same as the manual settings when using ics. with leaving 360 to automatically assign and all that i can connect and dl stuff but yeah when i do the test it gets stuck usually at MTU and if not it does right after that at icmp.
is the bridging method worth trying? since i'm using a netgear router.

If you are connecting an xbox to a wireless PC/Laptop, yes, use bridging and set your Xbox to "auto"

Hey all,
Just bought a 360 a little over a week ago and I've been trying to connect it to my wireless network at home. I bought the wireless adapter for the 360 and it passes the media test, but it fails the xbox live ICMP area. Everything connects fine up to the ICMP. Could this be a problem with my cable modem? Any help is appreciated!

i did use bridging but it doesn't work and just disables my wirelesss internet connection on the laptop. i am using a netgear router and i read the solutions for that as well as several others.
i tried everything and nothing worked.
i've decided i didn't want the wear and tear on my laptop anyway which we have to use for other things and my wife for work so i just got the 360 wireless adapter for a really good price. 100 is a ripoff.
(btw i love how by default this forums doesnt subscribe you to the thread let alone give you notification so i had trouble even finding the thread again)
any suggestions or link for using wireless adapter specifically with netgear router.
i assumed it would be no problem with teh official wireless adapter but i know that is being too optimistic considering the netgear router and not know how good the wireless adapter is at picking up a wifi signal especially being nder tv on a shelf on the back of the 360? and a floor down from where the router is.

yeah i was having similiar problem when connecting 360 to laptop using included ethernet cable with laptop on wifi.
i wanted to connect laptop to file sharing network with pc but now i'm just going to use the wireless adapter and connect to file sharing network with pc as well as getting the wifi inet connection from the netgear router.
with the laptop setup i think originally it all worked and passed every part of the connection test.
then suddenly for a gears of war update it didnt work and when i tried the test it was getting stopped at MTU. sometimes it would confirm the mtu but fail at the ICmP
i'm using motorola surfboard modem on comcast and a netgear router and now will try the wireless adapter.
any tips or link to instructions for getting things work fully and properly using this setup as well as how to get the 360 on a file sharing network with the pc so i can stream music, vid and pictures?

change mtu on the router to w hat then?
i'm just going to be trying with the official 360 wireless adapter now.
for reg xbox i just that in office connected by ethernet to the router directly and its fine so i dont need to use ICS and connect it to the pc.

Heeheh no mate, there's no US version of my site.. as I live in the UK
You can get US Homeplugs from all over the place... amazon.com maybe even Walmart?

media share software and live gold
ok connected the official wireless adapter and it worked instantly with full live connection test completing and with an open NAT instead of strict like i always had with ics and laptop.
just had to put in my wep key and didn't have to do anything on pc even with netgear router.
then dl'd win media player 11 and added , pics, music and vid to the library so the 360 can see it. almost made it harder on myself wondering why the test media conneciton wasn't working before i realized i just needed to go to the connect to computer section and remove the laptop connection and add the desktop pc. then it found all my media.
what is everyone using as the media software? zune? wmp 11? or win media connect? those seem to be the only three choices. i went with wmp 11 figuring it was easiest and i use wmp but after the fact i realized i kind of like wmp 10 better and that i had win media connect but getting wmp 11 uninstalls that. oh well, i guess its better to have wmp 11 and i can revert back but it can cause some problems and takes extra steps so i might not bother.
would like to try with a win media center pc as that is the other option in 360 which seems to let you do a little bit more but prob not worth getting that os or a new pc with it.
my other main question now is what is the cheapest easiest way to get live gold? because it seems you need it to play anything online, even demos.
i thought the pro system comes with 3 mo free of live gold? i got the pro system but how do you activate your 3 mo free of live gold?
oh and i have like 3 out of 5 bars for my wireless connection with the adapter connected to hdddvd drive on top of 360 on tv stand shelf under tv with router upstairs a floor. so not bad. it seems to really recommend using 802.11a for the diff 5ghz freq instead of 2.4 what phones and microwave use adn neighboring wifi but my g works fine. i do have 2.4ghz cordless phones though.
it mentions in the manual to really use wireless a for streaming video but i can even stream 1080p hd wmvs almost perfect over the g. in the list of compatible routers my netgear g router is listed so thatss good but netgear doenst' make any router with a/b/g and i like netgear best.
might think about the one linksys or dlink that have a since the wireless adapter has it and it makes sense how it might be better.
anyone know if the wireless adapter that verizon fios gives you (in the us) is? what brand? b/g or a/b/g? compatibility with 360?
