hi im having some troubles setting up my xbox live. i rent the upstairs of a house, and the landlord downstairs has wireless internet set up, which is what my computer is using. i didnt want to pay $100 for the xbox wireless adapter, so i bought a $20 router thinking it would work, but i keep getting dns failed. is it possible to have just my computer and 360 hooked up to the router? or do i need a cable from the cable modem also?

A router works by having a cable hooked from the modem into the router.

Without the connection from the modem to the router you have no internet connection. If you can't run a cable from the modem to your router try buying a using wireless network adapter or get a gamestop card and get a discount on one.

I personally use wireless and am very pleased with it. Works great, never lag. And I don't have to deal with ethernet cables.
