Wired Connection Problems

Hello,

I have been having problems for a while connecting to XBL, my old modems ethernet slot was broken so today i bought a new modem. I got it home and set it all up - direct modem to 360, made sure i switched it off at the mains for 2 minutes. When i attempted to test the connection my xbox couldn't pick up an IP.

I rung my ISP (Virgin Broadband) and requested the PPPoE settings, but they were not allowed to give me them, or in fact assist with anything to do with XBL. I was told to ring Microsoft and they would be able to assist me further and this is where my real problem arises.

When i rung Microsoft they asked me for all the details about my 360, and then told me it had been registered in someone elses name and because i am not that person they are not allowed to help me. The reason for this is because i bought my 360 off of Ebay last year (and now have no way of contacting the seller).

So to sum it up, my 360 is having IP problems but neither Virgin or Microsoft are willing to help me. Which is where i was hoping you guys would come in and save the day

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jack

I've had this problem before. All you need to do is unplug your power cord and count to 10 seconds (xbox is off), then try signing back in.

Edit: for clarification, I mean the power cord to your modem.

Yeah power cycling the modem usually helps a ton.

Just tried to power cycle and still no luck guys.

Out of interest, when you purchase a new modem is there any registration process you have to go through or such? As i have no registered with my new modem yet. That could be the problem maybe?

I think you have to call your ISP and give them your MAC address.
